Broadway San Diego’s mission is to support and cultivate the growing Arts community by encouraging and inspiring our audiences through Arts engagement and education.
These incredible BROADWAY SAN DIEGO EDUCATES initiatives, only available from Broadway San Diego, include:
- THEATRE THURSDAYS
The first Thursday of every run of a BROADWAY SAN DIEGO presented production will be known as Theatre Thursdays and will be focused on bringing students to the theatre. Not only will there be special group discounts, but it will also include different aspects focused on that particular show. Whether it is a study guide, trivia quiz, chat back or pre-show talk with someone from the cast/crew there is always going to be something fun for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are a seasoned theatre kid that wants to go into “the biz”, or this is your first time seeing a Broadway musical you will be welcomed to come a be a part of Theatre Thursdays! - TRIPLE THREAT TRAINING
Being a musical theatre professional is one of the most challenging & difficult, but most fulfilling careers because one must be a triple threat and know every part of the profession. Professional cast members from the touring shows will teach aspects of what it takes to be a part of something special that very few get the opportunity to experience; and go behind the scenes to learn the ins and outs of being a professional in the industry. Whether it be dancing, singing, acting, audition development, or technical aspects each student will come away with a new sense of belonging to the community and one step closer to maybe becoming a professional themselves. - THE BIZ BY THE PROS
Discover what it takes to make a Broadway tour happen by the people that make it happen. BROADWAY SAN DIEGO, (working with participating shows.) brings you Post Show Chat-backs with the casts. Not only will you find out everything you wanted to know about your favorite shows, YOU may also have the opportunity to ask your very own questions and have them answered! - BEHIND THE MAGIC
How did they do that?! BROADWAY SAN DIEGO would like to bring a select group of young people to get a front row seat and watch as your favorite show loads into the San Diego Civic Theatre. See first-hand how the magic happens and maybe even learn a few secrets! - BROADWAY FOR BEGINNERS
Broadway San Diego Education & Outreach can provide your class with a Theatre Study Guide, focused on the show you are about to see as well as a Welcome to The Theatre Guide to help with any questions or expectations your students will have so that when they arrive at the theatre, they are confident and can enjoy the show!
AND SO MUCH MORE…
If you are interested in learning how your school/class can be a part of these initiatives and how we can work with you to personalize the best education avenue for your students please email Education & Outreach Associate, Joey Landwehr at Jlandwehr@BroadwaySD.com today.
Every child should be able to experience the inspiration and joy only a Broadway musical can bring! But many young people in San Diego cannot afford a ticket to a Broadway show, not even a ticket at a deeply discounted rate. That is where you come in.
Musical theatre is unlike any other medium of entertainment. It can reach into every part of scholastics to make a well-rounded student grow academically, aesthetically, and personally. Consider this for example: musical theatre writers, lyricists, and composers have long looked to literature for their inspiration and subject material. As a result, students can engage in literary analysis of both the story and its inspiration, while discovering how music, dance, lighting, backdrops, etc. contribute to the show, exploring the elements of production and gain a greater appreciation for the arts no matter your grade level, for instance.
- Elementary students can begin to explore plot and characters.
- Junior high and high school students can delve into theme, symbolism, and historical context.
With your help we can reach our goal for every child in San Diego County to see the magic of a Broadway show before they graduate high school
